04Expert tip

Which walls actually help with sound?

You don’t need to cover every wall — placement matters more than quantity.

  1. The wall behind your desk or sofa — your video backdrop and the main reflection point for your voice.
  2. The wall opposite — stops sound bouncing straight back.
  3. Side walls — only if the room still sounds “ringy”.

FAQ

Feature wall questions

Can’t see your question? Ask us — we reply quickly.

Will acoustic panels make my room quieter?

They make a room sound calmer and clearer. Acoustic slat and felt panels absorb sound reflections, so they cut echo and reverberation — the reason home offices and open-plan rooms sound hollow on calls. They are not soundproofing: they won’t stop noise from neighbours or the street. We’ll be honest about what your room needs.

Which feature walls actually help with sound?

Acoustic slats on a felt backing and felt panels absorb sound. Fluted, Shaker and stone-effect panels are decorative — they change the look, not the acoustics. Many clients combine both: slats where sound matters, panelling elsewhere.

Why have a feature wall fitted rather than DIY?

Panels look premium only when the lines are perfectly straight and the edges are neat. As joiners we scribe panels to uneven walls and ceilings, cut cleanly around sockets, switches and windows, plan joints so seams don’t show, add trims and LED lighting, and can build them into a media wall, desk or shelving.

How long does installation take?

A typical single feature wall is fitted in a day. Larger rooms, ceilings, media walls and commercial spaces are scheduled around you, including out-of-hours work for businesses.

How much does a feature wall cost?

Every wall is different, so we price each job after seeing it — send a photo with rough sizes and we’ll arrange a visit and send a clear, itemised quote. Our cost guide explains what affects the price.

Can you supply only?

Yes. If you’d rather fit them yourself we can supply panels, trims and adhesive with a layout plan and fixing advice.

Do you work on offices, shops and hospitality?

Yes — meeting rooms, receptions, cafés, showrooms and open-plan offices. See feature walls for business.
